Legislative Action/Networking

FRIENDS OF WISCONSIN STATE PARKS (FWSP)
Legislative Action/Networking
Networking with Friends Groups is one of the most important strategic initiatives FWSP has. Healthy, growing and dynamic chapters are critical to the success of park and trail properties.FWSP started the networking process by assigning one or more chapters to each board member. Board members will discuss
the current chapter and FWSP issues and determine if there are helpful resources for chapters at the statewide level. A key goal is to develop a membership that is active on issues that affect parks and trails.  Part of this process is to establish a relationship with the chapter president or designee who will act as the legislative liaison with FWSP’s Policy Committee. As issues surface from FWSP or the chapter side they will be discussed and action determined.
Don’t be afraid to call or meet with a legislator to discuss issues that affect state properties.. Getting to know your legislator and making them aware of the impacts to your local property will help. Tell them you are a “Friends” member, as legislators are aware of our organization. Contact Board Member Michael McFadzen for additional resources on how to network with elected officials.
